24 Hours of Peace holding MACFEST banner!
"I love Manchester, my home city: a terrific, vibrant place with communities from around the world living in harmony side by side.
Through my various roles as an international peace activist, novelist, trustee of We Stand Together and co-chair of Faith Network 4 Manchester, promoting community cohesion, challenging hatred and celebrating diversity is part and parcel of my everyday life.
For me, it all begins at home. We should challenge any racist, xenophobic and sexist remarks made by those near and dear to us..." Qaisra Shahraz
A specially selected group of Year 10 students were taken on a top secret trip to the British Muslim Heritage Centre for a visit from HRH Prince Charles, as recognition for their involvement in MACFEST.
"This once in a lifetime opportunity has brought unforgettable memories and has motivated me to take part in further events commemorating our history and culture." Aayesha (Year 10 student)
We reflected on the achievements of MACFEST 2018 and how from volunteers to partners we all came together to create over 50 events celebrating Muslim culture and arts!
It was fantastic to have the chance to relax, eat and celebrate together!
The weekend brought people from across Manchester to celebrate women throughout history!
MACFEST offered several activities at the festival on Saturday. Here are pictures of the adorable Palestinian girls from the Manchester Arabic school who performed the Dabke dance. Here with their teachers and Kate and Jo the organisers of the festival, holding our peace banner with its slogan #SpreadHoneyNotHate and our cultural tables showing Iraqi, Libyan, Bosnian & Pakistani heritage. We had a lovely time – congratulations to all who took part.
A fantastically female and inspiring event and we look forward to continuing to working with Stretford Public Hall to help bring unity to Manchester!
Qaisra Shahraz, Founder and Director of MACFEST was honoured with the 'Leading Lights of the Year' Award for the ground-breaking Muslim Arts and Culture Festival.
